A Jewel of the Central High Atlas
Located 150 km northeast of Marrakech, in the Azilal province, the Ouzoud Falls are considered the highest and most spectacular in Morocco. They peak at 110 meters and unfold in several tiers, pouring their waters into a lush green landscape in the heart of the Central High Atlas mountain range.
Origin of the Name
The word Ouzoud comes from Berber and means “olive tree”, in reference to the vast olive groves which line the valley and which one crosses to reach the site.
A breathtaking natural setting
From the moment you arrive, the view is breathtaking:
The red rock, emblematic of the region, contrasts with the lush vegetation.
Rainbows regularly form in the mist created by the waterfall.
The freshness of the air is striking, especially in summer, offering a welcome respite from the Moroccan heat.
📸 Photo Tip
To capture rainbows, choose a visit in mid- or late afternoon, when the sun reflects off the mist.

Meet the Barbary macaques
The site is home to a colony of Barbary macaques (or Barbary macaques), a protected and emblematic species of Morocco. They roam freely, rest in the olive trees, and observe visitors with curiosity. Their large numbers delight young and old alike.
⚠️ Avoid giving them food: it harms their health and disrupts their eating habits.

Activities and Discoveries
Hiking: Several trails allow you to descend to the foot of the waterfalls or enjoy panoramic views from higher up.
Swimming: In summer, you can cool off in the natural pools at the foot of the falls.
Traditional boats: To get up close to the curtain of water and experience the full power of the falls.
Gourmet break: Small restaurants and teahouses set along the water's edge offer tagines, couscous, and local specialties.
Access from Marrakech
The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours by car or minibus. The route crosses beautiful countryside landscapes, punctuated by Berber villages. Excursions are often taken as a day trip, departing in the morning and returning in the late afternoon.
